The Waterfall Circuit

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

The calls of rainforest frogs, birds and cicadas greet you as you arrive at beautiful Ellinjaa Falls, the first stop on the Millaa Millaa waterfall circuit.

Just a little further along down the road you’ll discover Zillie Falls, viewing is restricted to the top section of the path, but here you’ll see a variety of fungi, beetles and butterflies.

All the waterfalls of the Cairns Highlands rainforest are beautiful but perhaps the most spectacular is Millaa Millaa Falls itself. Tree Kangaroos are often spotted here so if you’re lucky you might just see one, there is a short walking track through the rainforest here as well where you’ll see bush turkeys and other rainforest birds. More than 500 different native rainforest tree species are found in this region including blackbean, milky pine, water gum and red tulip oak.
